Architect in the House - 2009/10

Every year during Architecture Week, the Royal Institute of British Architects in association with the charity Shelter, promote this scheme to encourage clients to have a one hour consultation in their home or office in exchange for a minimum donation of £40 to Shelter.

The RIBA co-ordinates the public's response and refers you to a participating Practice, usually within five miles of your home or office. All RIBA members participating in the scheme are usually RIBA Registered Practices. We are such a Practice and have participated for several years. Each year we undertake an increasing number of visits.

Between 2002 and 2008 we have visited 457 homes from Guisborough to Berwick. In doing so we have raised over £16,390 for Shelter. Examples of the projects we have visited and the matters discussed can be seen in the adjoining list of photographs. Following such consultations between 2002 and 2008 we undertook a number of the projects discussed, ranging in value from £7,000 to £900,000.

Architect in the House 2009 took place in July 2009 and we are participating in the scheme. This Practice will continue to run the scheme throughout the year so it is never too late to be involved if you so wish, just give us a call. We are always happy to meet prospective Clients for a preliminary meeting without obligation. Please "click here to e-mail us" contact us to discuss your project and to help us to increase the funds raised for Shelter. For visits booked after the end of Architecture Week we ask applicants to make a minimum donation of £50.
