Architect in the House - 2004
Every year during Architecture Week, the Royal Institute of British Architects in association with the charity Shelter, promote this scheme to encourage clients to have a one hour consultation in their home or office in exchange for a minimum donation of £25 to Shelter.
The RIBA co-ordinates the public's response and refers you to a participating Practice, usually within five miles of your home or office. All RIBA members participating in the scheme are usually RIBA Registered Practices. We are such a Practice and have participated for several years. Each year we undertake an increasing number of visits. In 2002 we visited 21 homes from Alnmouth to Sunderland. In 2003 we travelled as far as Northallerton, Guisborough and Redcar, visited 83 homes and contributed £2,300 to the sum of over £100,000 raised that year.
In response to the 2004 call for participants we visited 93 homes and raised £2,975.
