Design: refurbishment
Project: Factory buildings, Fawdon
Client: Sanofi Winthrop Production Division
A condition survey of all 33,000 m2 of the existing roofs was undertaken and proposals submitted for a ten phase programme of replacement and refurbishment.
JPA provided architectural, cost control and planning supervisor services for the subsequent phased replacement of the roofs.
The work included renewal of smoke extractors and ventilation equipment, rationalisation and removal of redundant rooftop plant - some by helicopter - and substantial improvements to the thermal performance of the buildings. All work was carried out over pharmaceutical research, production, storage and working areas, all of which remained in use throughout the works.
Contract value: £2.1 million
Project completed: 1990-98
